Barring emergencies or other unforeseen events, this is the last week the Supreme Court of Ohio will hear oral arguments until after the first of the year, 2019.  The main reason for this is that Justice O’Donnell must retire at the end of this year because of the judicial age limits in the Ohio Constitution, so all cases he has participated in must be finished.  Additionally, Justice DeGenaro, who was appointed to fill the remaining term of Justice Bill O’Neill, is running for election. If she happened to lose, that would add another reason why all cases must be decided by year’s end. If she wins, all cases must be decided anyway, because of Justice O’Donnell’s departure. Just the routine disruptions expected during election years and with retiring justices.
