Greg Kendall was one of my research assistants while he was in law school, and worked on this blog for two years as a student contributor. Greg graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law this spring. He passed the bar, and was sworn in on November 4, 2013.

On November 5, 2013, barely 24 hours old as a lawyer, Greg, who works at the Cincinnati firm of Montgomery Rennie & Jonson, appeared before the Supreme Court of Ohio, arguing part of the case of State ex.rel. The Cincinnati Enquirer v. Honorable Robert H. Lyons.  The Enquirer had brought an original action in mandamus seeking relief under the Public Records Act to unseal the records in a Miami University rape flier case.

Greg was one of two lawyers representing Judge Lyons. He was both confident and consummately prepared. When I spoke with Greg later, he told me that working on the blog totally helped him know what to expect from the justices. As a teacher, that pleased me, to be sure!

Greg’s opponent, the ever-gracious Jack Greiner of the Cincinnati firm of Graydon Head & Ritchey was also his usual excellent self.  When I spoke with Jack later, he was highly complimentary about Greg’s performance. It turns out Jack’s own son had also been sworn in as a lawyer the day before the argument.
