Both the U.S. Supreme Court and the Ohio Supreme Court take the summer off from hearing cases, but with different schedules. The U.S. Supreme Court releases all of its submitted cases by the end of June, and then adjourns until its new term begins the first Monday in October.  Usually, it saves the most important decisions for last. Last year, for example, the Obama Health Care decision was released on June 28, 2012. This year, a number of high profile cases such as the two gay marriage cases have not yet been released.

The Ohio Supreme Court  doesn’t formally have terms, but it has finished hearing cases for the summer.  It resumes oral arguments on August 20. It doesn’t release all pending cases before adjourning for the summer, but continues to release merit decision every week. The blog will continue to analyze these as they come out.
