Further Update–turns out that was just the morning releases.  In the afternoon, the Court released another batch–probably all that were left, since Justice McGee Brown’s term has ended.

Update: The Court released 18 decisions on December 6, 2012.

On December 5, 2012, the Supreme Court announced that as part of its “year-end transition process” it was going to release a boatload of decisions over the next few days. The blog will analyze the merits decisions at a considerably slower pace than the Court releases them– Prof. Bettman also has exams to grade!

Also on December 5, the Court released seven decisions (without opinion) on the authority of  Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. v. Schwartzwald, Slip Opinion No. 2012-Ohio-5017, in which the Court held that a mortgage company that filed a foreclosure action before it had obtained the assignment of the note and mortgage lacked standing to bring the action.  Read the list of these cases here. The Court also released ten decisions on the authority of In Re J.V., Slip Opinion No. 2012-Ohio-4961,   in which the Court held that the statute which allows the juvenile court to invoke the stayed adult portion of a juvenile’s blended dispositional sentence is constitutional, but the juvenile court has no jurisdiction to impose punishment after age 21.   Read the list of these cases here.  Read the blog analysis of the J.V. case here.
